The Ganges is a mojor river in the Indian subcontinent flowing east through the eponymous plains of northern India into Bangladesh.
The river is 2510km long.It's source is at the Gangotri Glacier in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, in the central of Himalayas, and drains into the Bay of Bengal through its vast delta in the Sunderbans.
It is worshipped in its personified form as the goddess Ganga.
The Ganges and its triutaries drain a large and fertile basin(about one million square killometres). It supports one of the world's highest density human populations.

km² . it discharges at the mouth at 12,015

s .
economic activities
The people work in agricultures.
They grow crops on the fertile floodplains of the delta.
The people in Bangladesh also fish in the delta region, as fish is an major source of food for many living there.
The Ganges basin wih its fertile soil is instrumental to the economies of India and Bangladesh.
The Ganges and its tributaries provide a perennial source of irrigation to a large area.
The agricultural activities tere include: rice, sugarcanes, lentils, oil sesame and wheat.

in november 1970, Bhola cycloe hit the Ganges Delta, killig 500,000 people with 100,000 missing.
Another cyclone hit the delta in 1991,killed about 138,000 people. most deaths were from drowning, with the highest mortality among children and the elderly.
The high velocity wind and the storm urge devasted the coastline. A concrete levee that was built, was washed away by the storm surge.
A result of mass land erosion resulted in farmers losing their land,hence, the number of unemployment went up.
